Handmade Story: Invites & Cupcake Toppers!

My hand-crafted Birthday Party Invitations and Cupcake Toppers are special and not just because my Mom tells me so. Thanks anyway Mom!

What makes them so special? Every piece of material I purchase to make these items goes to support my local economy. The books carrying the fun images are sourced and handpicked from HUNDREDS of books carried by Charity Thrift Stores around the lower mainland. I spend ages going through all the stacks opening every book that catches my eye to find the few that are just right. They have to be a certain size, with lots of pictures and not your traditional Disney brand. I like to find really fun books that have obviously been enjoyed by their previous owners. As a bonus with every purchase from these second hand shops a portion of the proceeds goes towards a local charity.

Next up is cardstock! I love to support my local small businesses as much as possible. That's why you'll usually find me hanging out at my local cafe or drooling over the deliciousness of the River Market at the Quay. But I digress! We are very lucky to have a fantastic local stationary supply store called Paper Poet and this is where I purchase the card stock, essentially the "body" of my work. Their cardstock is made from 80% post consumer reyclables and their gorgeous handmade paper is also made from recyclable materials. They also have a great selection of stamps and if I can't find what I need there then Michael's in Burnaby is also a great choice!

With all my materials in order I set to crafting. Each page for an envelope is chosen, cut out and glued together (hurray for Elmer's and their non animal product glue) then I decide on each accent, stamp colour and image! A lot of love and care goes into producing a product that I hope you enjoy for your child's next birthday party.

When you deliver your birthday invitations to your child's party guests they will automatically know that this birthday party is different, it's special, and that you've put a great deal of care into each and every detail just as I have.
